This timepiece, again, shows what I love so much about the watchmaker of Rolex. Simplicity, big dials, and smart looks, these points have so greatly explained my zeal for the brand. And in June last year, the company was pretty excited to present to its fans this new new Montre d’Aviateur Chronographe Edition Patrouille Suisse watch, simply another masterpiece created for pilots to conquer the sky.

Actually the model was made to pay tribute to the the Patrouille Suisse – the Swiss Air Force. And the design in my opinion is meant to tell people how a rolex watches replica can go understated and eye-catching at the very same time. The reason, I think, lies in its grey technical design. The case, however, is rendered in stainless steel and measures 42mm x 14.7mm.

On the back part of the timepiece you are going to find that the watch has been individually numbered and also a line saying “Tribute To Patrouille Suisse”. With its top shielded by an anti-reflective sapphire crystal, this study construction ensures a water-resistance of 60 meters.

And when we come to the dial of this model, we all may be pleased with that high legibility it comes with. Contrasting Arabic numerals are employed to indicate central hours and minutes. The small seconds can be read through a counter at 9 o’clock. While its chronograph functions are displayed respectively via a 30-minute counter and a 12-hour sub-dial, which can be seen at 12 and 6 o’clock.

The display has also got a central chronograph seconds hand finalized by a red air fighter, which, of course, was made so as a respectful nod to the very famous Northrop F-5E Tiger II of the Patrouille Suisse aerobatics team. Apart from all these above, the watch also tells the day and date at 3 o’clock, which again has added to its functionality.

The heart breathing life into all these functions is the brand’s proprietary caliber 79320. Incorporating 25 jewels, this amazing engine operates at the speed of 28,800 vibrations per hour, allowing a power reserve of 44 hours.

And to further nicely complete the whole style, this new Rolex model is paired with a black textile strap with grey stitching. Yet, coming in a limited edition of merely 300 pieces already means huge difficulty in obtaining any of these timepieces, not to mention the sky-high price. So if you also can’t resist that charm yet can’t afford it, why not go for the Swiss replica watches? The imitation watches can be the most ideal substitutes if nicely crafted.

Everything that can be said about the Omega Speedmaster had already been said, at least that was the case until Basel World 2011.

At its core, the basic Speedmaster – the Speedmaster Professional – has remained largely unchanged; a 3-register chronograph with a fixed tachymetre bezel built atop a Lemania-based manually wound movement. Its unmistakable proportions and details have come to define what most folks think of as a classic chronograph The automatic Speedmaster, though, has always taken a backseat to the professional employing less than classic designs and movements, often based on very simple ETA or Valjoux ebauches.

All that changed last March when Omega introduced an entirely new Speedmaster, a Speedmaster fitted with an in-house automatic, co-axial column wheel chronograph. This isn’t your Speedmaster Professional, and it doesn’t pretend to be, it’s something entirely different. This is the Speedmaster of an entirely new generation, the Speedmaster that will take Omega into the next century. It’s bigger, bolder, we think bettter, and certainly more expensive (roughly double the price of the ETA-based automatic Speedmasters.)

I recently spent a week with the new Omega Speedmaster Co-Axial Chronograph to find out how it stacks up to the original, and a host of other high-end alternatives – read on for a detailed review of a watch that has the potential to become a new staple in sport watches.

The Sunday before SIHH kicked off, we paid a visit to the just opened M.A.D. Gallery, a new concept store owned and curated by MB&F. The shop is unlike any other in the world, and if you make to Geneva, it would be a mistake not to visit.

Inside the gallery you will find a host of things that, while not produced by MB&F, are very much in the same vein as their machines, both horological and legacy. Here are three of our favorite pieces from our visit, three pieces that don’t tell time.

By TLex Introducing the KADLOO Windward MASTER. Its 45mm Stainless steel case has a water-resistance of 200m and is fitted with a sapphire crystal and a uni-directional rotational divers bezel. Check out the font used for the elapsed dive time scale – the 2s, 3s and 5s are quite terrible. The watch case features an exhibition caseback, which affords a view onto a Swiss made Valjoux 7750 automatic chronograph caliber. Functions include time, day and date. The dial, which comes in three color variants is with SuperLuminova applied hour markers. I first saw these watches almost a year ago at the Basel fair. I’m not sure why I didn’t get round to posting them until now. It could have been because Kadloo as brand doesn’t really interest me, the watches bare far too many borrowed design elements for my liking. Having said that, I can’t really find fault with their use of color; it’s always nice to see brown being used and blue and orange / yellow alway work beautifully together. Nor can I find fault with the good looking handset – wait a minute, yes, I can, there won’t be nearly enough lume . . .
Click to enlargeThis could be one of my favorite pieces from SIHH – here’s why:

The Jaeger-LeCoultre Duomètre à Quantième Lunaire 40.5, in spite of its long and arduous name (for those of us with an English tongue) is a very serious watch. It is, what many would call, a piece of haute horlogerie. Now this terms gets thrown around a lot, in fact the “HH” in “SIHH” stands for haute horlogerie and I can tell you with great certainty that not all watches shown at the salon warrant such a title. The new Duometre does, however.

You see, this watch uses a movement, the JLC Caliber 381, that employs a double-wing concept, meaning it has two unique energy sources. The first, regulated by the escapement and the balance, is entirely dedicated to the precise measurement of the passing of time; whereas the second source of energy is devoted to the display of the functions: hours, minutes, seconds, calendar and moon phases for both hemispheres. The two are then regulated against each other via a jumping seconds hand that measures 1/6th of a second. To see this watch in action is just a thrill, so luckily we’ve filmed it for you below:

By TLex The Michel Herbelin watch company was founded in 1947 by Frenchman, Michel Herbelin. But it wasn’t until his son Jean-Claude joined the company some 25yrs later that the brand started to make a name for itself, at least in France anyway. Even today I have to admit it is surprising that the brand doesn’t have more recognition; they produce some 150′000 watches a year, which sell in more than 50 countries worldwide. Their watches, which follow a sailing theme (their logo is a ship’s wheel) have three lines; Newport Marine, Newport Trophy and Newport Trophy Grand Sport, a collection of 10 models, all of which are suitable for diving. They have uni-directional divers bezels and water-resistance for the line ranges from 200m – 1000m. All house Swiss calibers; some autos like the 7750 (above) which is due for release this year, some quartz like the 1000m diver (below). The name Newport Trophy comes from the America’s Cup race to Newport, Rhode island. Below is the Grand Sport DIVER 1000m . . .From MH When diving, your most important piece of equipment (other than your oxygen tank!) is your diver’s watch. This Newport Trophy Grand Sport DIVER watch in stainless steel will not let you down when it matters most. Water resistant to 100 Atmospheres, this rugged watch features a 44mm case with uni-directional stainless steel and black titanium treated treated turning bezel – for timing purposes. The black grid pattern dial has white luminous coated indexes and hands so that the dial is still legible in dark under water conditions. The hands also have red tips for improved legibility. The screw-down caseback is embossed with the Newport Trophy ships wheel emblem. The large screw-down crown is engraved with a grid pattern for improved grip and set with black rubber. The ultimate diver’s watch.
By TLex VULCAIN have released 209 piece Limited Edition reissue of their diver’s watch from 1961. The Nautical HERITAGE Limited Edition celebrates the 50th anniversary of this historical dive watch. Faithful to the original design, its 42mm case has a water-resistance of 300 meters and is fitted with a plexiglass crystal. In the early 60s a 42mm case diameter was a considerable size that was chosen as such for optimal reading of the watch’s dial. It houses the legendary CRICKET Caliber V-10 with alarm. The alarm, which is clearly audible underwater, can be used to indicate elapsed dive time. It can be used in combination with the watch’s superimposed decompression tables, which are adjustable by a screwdown crown at 4 o’clock. There’s rectangular opening on the dial through which a diver can read the downtime required for conventional levels of 9, 6, and 3 meters, depending on the depth and duration of their dive. To add a further sense of authenticity Vulcain have used a lovely gold-tinted vintage style luminous material for the handset and hour markers.
By TLex JeanRichard release a new version of their DIVERSCOPE with an innovative method for indicating power-reserve . . .From JR After the initial titanium versions, this is the first model in the line to be presented with its distinctive cushion-shaped case made from polished and satin-finished stainless steel. The solid caseback is secured by four screws which, together with the screw-lock crowns at 9 and 3 o’clock – respectively controlling the hour&date and the internal bidirectional rotating bezel – guarantee water resistance to the respectable depth of 1,000 feet (300 metres). This robust and reliable sporty model is powered by a 26-jewel automatic JR 1010 movement, based on the in-house made JR 1000 movement launched in 2004 and successively enriched since then with nine different evolutions. It features a balance oscillating at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and ensuring a 48-hour power reserve. CLARITY & ORIGINALITY The extremely readable opaline black dial features a date display at 7.30, black & white hour and minute hands filled with a luminescent substance, along with luminescent-rimmed hour-markers and Arabic numerals. Among the latter, the number 12 stands in a particular way, since it empties and fills to provide a highly original linear power-reserve indication from which the model draws its ‘LPR’ code name. Like many successful designs, the technique behind this distinctive aesthetic and technical feature is surprisingly simple: a plate covered with a luminescent substance is linked to a cam via a conveyor support and a connecting rod, and this plate rises successively as the movement is wound and the numerals become white – meaning the power reserve is full. Much like a petrol gauge, this linear power-reserve then vividly displays the gradual depletion of the energy supply.Delivered with two straps – one in rubber and the other in a Kevlar® fabric – fastened by a satin-finished folding steel clasp with a double pushbutton security system, this is a watch clearly built for action and ready to accompany sports enthusiasts in their accomplishments both underwater and on dry land.
